How are you feeling? Personally I’ve been feeling a lot of stress and anxiety lately. It seems like so much is outside of my control.
Having a regular mindfulness practice can help! While we love to see you at Tune In, whether in person or over Zoom, we are aware that sometimes having an app is more accessible. I’m going to share some information about a few different apps that I have become familiar with:
Calm: This is a very popular app. It includes new daily meditations, stories (read by famous performers), music, masterclasses and help with sleep and breath. I use Calm when I’m still lying in bed in the morning as a ‘first thing’ meditation practice (she tells me to be in a seated position but I never am). I also use their daily reminders for ‘gratitude’ and to track my daily moods and mindset.
Price – $69.99/year or $399.99 lifetime
Waking Up: Begins with an introductory course, with a variety of meditation lessons. Offers daily meditations, theory and even some conversations around awareness. Sam Harris is my main meditation guru and the practices on awareness and intention are great for me. I also recommend his books and podcast if you’re looking for more. Waking up is my favorite mindfulness app and I feel like the practices here have helped me improve my awareness and become a better teacher.
Price – $99.99/year, or you can email them to get access for free if that price doesn’t fit your budget.
Oak: This app is completely free! But only available on iOS (I’ve never used it, but it comes highly recommended by Bryce, so please include him in any of your complaint correspondence).
Headspace: Includes a lot of articles you can read, daily meditations, exercises and help with sleep. I don’t resonate with this app at all, but want you to know what else is out there.
Price – $69.99/year
Insight Timer: Includes thousands of free guided meditations, music, talks, and courses. There is also a paid subscription that allows access to the entire library. When I open this app I become paralyzed with too many choices, and I spend more time searching for a meditation than actually meditating. I don’t really use it much anymore, but is a great starting point.
Price – Can do a lot for Free or $60/year
