Meditation is like a workout for your mind. The practice of meditation focuses on noticing what you’re thinking, creating awareness, and then redirecting yourself to a focus point like your breath. This is a common issue for new meditators and perfectly normal. The goal of meditation is not to get rid of your thoughts but to learn to observe them with loving kindness. Just like with learning any other skill, learning to meditate takes time and practice. The more you practice, the more natural it becomes. Be gentle with yourself and trust the process. This is common during meditation and if this happens to you, don’t be concerned. Learning to meditate is about finding the right balance between focused attention and relaxation, and sometimes we drift a little too far in either direction. Try to meditate sitting up and avoid eating a heavy meal before you meditate. Whatever you’re wearing works! If you’re new to the practice then we recommend you dress comfortably so can comfortably sit or lie down. We ask you to leave your shoes. Just yourself! We have cushy meditation pillows and blankets available, although you’re welcome to bring your own. A water bottle and notebook for any insights you gained during class can be helpful too. We recommend coming in 15 minutes before class so you have time to settle in. The door closes when class starts, and unfortunately, no one will be admitted once it’s been closed. While we understand “life happens” and we want everyone to enjoy our classes, coming in late disrupts the flow and process of those already meditating. We ask that you take your shoes off and use quiet voices once you get to the studio. Please turn your phone off or on silent! Buzzing phones are disturbing to the class flow.
